Being stupid in November 2010
This is still my favorite song, and yes I did put my hijab up to form rabbit ears.
This is still my favorite video of Sara.

Trojans- Atlas Genius
Stuck in my head since last week. Finally figured out the title/artist today. Life is good.
My cousin Lars is the best goddamn rapper in all of Norway. A true poet and top dude. We wrote this song together which marks the first time I sing something I wrote in Norwegian. The video was directed by Andrew Amorim in one take.
Another reason to love Norwegians and Sondre Lerche.

Better Girl / Best Coast
Listening to Best Coast makes me feel like I’m in the 6th grade again and I think that’s why I can never decide if I love them or hate them.
Kishi Bashi live at the 9:30 Club, opening for of Montreal back in early April.
Juggling violin, beatboxing and both English and Japanese vocals, Kishi Bashi is a one-man orchestra who blends a mess of ingredients into a symphony of loop-pedaled wonders. Watch him build his music one melody at a time, live in concert in Washington D.C.

I have a very special place in my heart for Kishi Bashi. Megan and I first discovered him when he opened for Sondre Lerche at the 9:30 Club almost a year ago. His was one of the most interesting live performances I’ve ever seen, mostly because I had never seen someone live loop on stage before. He was also really goofy, so there was that, too (our favorite song of the night was “Just the Tip”). Totally nice guy. Makes music he wants to make. Gives no fucks.
I bought his EP, he signed it, we talked in Japanese, it was cool. His family lives in Norfolk, VA…I recently learned that his mom is my friend Jake’s Japanese professor at ODU. Fun facts.
So, anyway…
In December, because I liked his EP so much, I backed his Kickstarter project. And it was a good decision. His full-length album is beautiful. Each song starts out doing one thing and ends up doing something else. The first few times I listened to it, my mind was blown. I couldn’t keep track of anything but at the same time it made me really happy.
I’m really bad at writing about music if you couldn’t already tell.
His live stuff is really different from his album. When he performs live, it’s an entire process. He builds everything from nothing. It’s just him, a mic, a violin, and a looper-thing. Every performance is different. He’s not trying to sound like his album, and that’s pretty fucking cool. He doesn’t sound like his album at all, in the best way possible. Sometimes not sounding like the album can be a total let down, but not with him (or of Montreal, or Sondre Lerche, etc, for that matter).
I’m still kind of mad at myself for missing this concert. School got in the way. I’ve seen him before, and I’ve seen of Montreal before, but I wanted to see what they would do this time around.
So, yeah. If you have 30 minutes, watch this. It’s pretty cool.

Beanbag Chair - Yo La Tengo
Allo Darlin’ - Tallulah
I don’t typically like such sugary sweet indie pop, but this song is tickling my fancy right now. So. Cute.
I generally don’t listen to female artists, but this is nice. I can dig it.
More like Blue Wednesday, amirite?
